A year after we lost the longtime Gap store at Westfield Montgomery mall, its budget-friendlier sibling has arrived on Rockville Pike. Gap Factory opened this week in the former Lands’ End space at Congressional Plaza, bringing a huge selection of moderately priced styles for men, women, kids and babies. Unlike outlet stores that specialize in overstock merchandise, Gap Factory sells clothing made specifically for its own stores. Styles are similar to the regular Gap — primarily basics, denim and casual wear — but the fabrics tend to be thinner, the tailoring may be less precise, and the prices will definitely be lower. The new store fits in well with Congressional Plaza’s growing lineup of off-price shopping options. Just down the sidewalk, you’ll also find a J. Crew Factory store; Going, Going Gone! from Dick’s Sporting Goods; and a soon-to-open Nordstrom Rack. Last winter, Congressional was also home to a pop-up Roche Bobois furniture outlet.
