The Gap, one of the oldest tenants at Westfield Montgomery mall, will close its doors in July after a multi-decade run. The store is already starting to empty out, as markdowns have begun on clothes for men, women, kids and babies. The Gap’s departure follows last year’s closing of sister store Banana Republic, along with those of other Gen X legacy retailers like Talbots, Ann Taylor and Express. Meanwhile, early-2000s darling Abercrombie & Fitch recently returned to the mall and Japanese retailer Uniqlo just opened. We’re also hearing that Zara may be expanding — possibly into a larger, two-story space like the one just vacated by Forever 21.
