Wushiland, the latest addition to the overflowing bubble tea scene on Rockville Pike, had a buzzy opening this week at Federal Plaza. The new shop replaces another bubble tea business, Tiger Sugar, which closed last February after a five-year run. Wushiland is the U.S. name for the Taiwanese chain otherwise known as 50 Lan, which has been serving up bubble tea since 1994. The Rockville shop, operated by Walter Johnson High School alum Edison Chen, is Wushiland’s first in Maryland. Its fresh fruit teas and cheese foam toppings could provide some real competition for the super-popular HeyTea, which opened last year at Wintergreen Plaza and is also on its way to Westfield Montgomery mall.
Next up for bubble tea in Rockville: Teas ‘n You, operated by two former online poker stars. It’s set to debut in August a little further north on the Pike.
