This extra-wintry week seems like a great time to spill the beans about three new coffee shops that are on the way to Rockville.
- Neighbors Barista, currently a staple at the Kentlands Farmers Market, will open its first brick-and-mortar location at the Woodley Gardens shopping center. Owners Spencer Trach and Lulu Parajuli, who have been roasting beans in their garage for the past two years, are hoping to make their shop a community gathering space. “We’re already thinking of things we want to offer, like latte-art classes, roasting classes and tastings,” Trach says. If all goes well, the coffee will start brewing by the end of this summer.
- Boston-based Tatte has largely completed construction on Rockville Pike and is expected to open its doors on Jan. 29th. Tatte, which serves a robust menu of food and baked goods as well as coffee, will be the first big draw for the Towne Plaza shopping center since Chef Geoff’s closed in 2015.
- Another local shop, Wild Bean Coffee, has leased the space next to Video Editor at 1532 Rockville Pike. This is the same center where Party City is about to close. Opening date and details are TBD.
