It looks like the redevelopment of Westfield Montgomery mall is about to get back on track. This month marked the expiration of a year-long construction moratorium for the Walter Johnson High School cluster, clearing the way for the mall’s ambitious expansion to begin. First up: demolishing the empty Sears store to make way for an apartment building, a new garage, a walkable outdoor shopping plaza and a massive fitness center (likely a Life Time Athletic). Long-term plans call for a hotel, office space, more shops and apartments, and a multi-level Macy’s store with clothes and home goods consolidated under one roof. That means Macy’s will either add another floor to its existing building or build a brand new store on the other side of the mall. Either way, the existing Macy’s Home store will eventually close.
