Tropical Smoothie Cafe has opened at Wintergreen Plaza, taking over the former Capital Cryo space next door to Timothy’s Salon. The chain is best known for its fruit-forward smoothies, but it also serves grab-and-go breakfast items, sandwiches, salads and açai-style bowls. This is the fifth Tropical Smoothie Cafe in Montgomery County — and the second on Rockville Pike — for local franchisee Rafik Fouad. He’s already scouting space for another location near Westfield Montgomery mall.
In other Wintergreen Plaza news: Caring Hands Animal Hospital will be expanding into the space that was recently vacated by Ten Ren Tea & Ginseng.
