Sweet news on the ice cream front for Shady Grove Road: Sarah’s Handmade is heading to the Fallsgrove shopping center. Annie Park, who runs the business with her mother Sarah, says she’s aiming for a January opening next to the AT&T store. This will be the third location for Sarah’s, which launched four years ago in Bethesda’s Kenwood neighborhood and expanded to Wildwood in 2020. Like the first two stores, Park says the Fallsgrove location will make its ice cream daily right on the premises. Sarah’s is known for adventurous flavors like Lavender Honey, Lemon Poppyseed, Earl Grey Speculoos and Black Sesame Snickerdoodle. Since its debut, other local newcomers like The Scoop and the upcoming Mimi’s Handmade have followed a similar model. Park says she welcomes the competition, as there’s plenty of business for everyone. “We are increasing the awareness that ice cream can be this amazing dessert, instead of just something you buy at the grocery store,” she says. “The more presence we have, it’s really a win-win for everyone.”
