Rockville’s Hobby Works store is closing its doors after 30 years at Federal Plaza on the Pike. Staffers tell us Hobby Works’ owners couldn’t come to a new lease agreement with the center’s landlord, Federal Realty. The store’s last day of business will be Feb. 28th. Markdowns have begun on all remaining inventory, which includes puzzles, games, building kits, crafting supplies and model trains. Hobby Works has another store in Laurel that will remain open.
In other Federal Plaza news:
- A few doors down from Hobby Works, a new local wine shop called Tipping Point is open for business.
- Taiwanese bubble tea shop Tiger Sugar has closed after a five-year run. A similar shop, Wushiland Boba, will be taking its place. Wushiland, also based in Taiwan, is known for its fresh fruit teas and yogurt teas.

That is a shame about Hobby Works. With all the vacant retail space, you would hope they could find a better location in the Rockville Pike area. This is an under served market. Already have plenty of food oriented businesses. Good luck to them.
