Häagen-Dazs is joining the lineup at Rockville’s Congressional Plaza, moving in next to Custom Ink and Starbucks. It’s replacing the short-lived bubble tea shop Mr. Wish, giving Congressional its first ice cream store since Baskin-Robbins closed in 2019. Häagen-Dazs is basically the granddaddy of premium ice cream brands, launching in Brooklyn in 1976 at the then-exorbitant price of 50 cents per scoop. This new location on Rockville Pike will be little more than a mile from newcomer Mimi’s Handmade, the locally owned ice cream shop that opened last fall at Federal Plaza. Will Rockville-area ice cream lovers be willing to double-dip?
