Taiwanese restaurant Bao Bei will make the leap from food truck fame to a permanent home next week. Doors are set to open Wednesday, Aug. 27th, at Rockville’s Montrose Crossing shopping center. Chef/owner Kevin Hsieh and the Bao Bei team were finalists on Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race in 2024. For the past three years, they’ve been cooking out of a shared commercial kitchen and offering delivery through food apps. Hsieh is best known for his pork belly buns, but the new restaurant will offer Taiwanese street food favorites like pickled cabbage, braised eggs, sesame and scallion bread, tofu bowls, brown sugar swirly buns, and house-made mango juice. You’ll find Bao Bei at 12015-E Rockville Pike, next to Kosmo Nail Bar.
