Big news for local bird lovers: The Backyard Bird Feeder, a Virginia-based chain offering a huge array of seed mixes and avian gadgets, is coming home to roost in Potomac Village. (Surprising fact: 35 percent of American adults participate in backyard birding, according to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.) The 40-year-old birding store, with four locations in Virginia, had a perch in Potomac in the 1990s (under a slightly different name) but then relocated to Sangamore Road in Bethesda. This time it’s flying back to the Village, landing on River Road in the long-empty space next to Potomac Grocer. Doors are expected to open in September.
