Newcomer Brio’s Chicken just opened its doors at Westfield Montgomery mall, offering traditional Peruvian cuisine with a focus on organic ingredients. Owner Jose Lara, who’s worked in commercial and government kitchens throughout the D.C. area, says this will be the first of four locations including one in Kentlands. His menu includes whole chicken meals with a variety of sides, as well as popular dishes like ceviche, tamales, fried sea bass, lomo saltado (pictured here) and seafood rice. Don’t miss the chicha morada (also pictured here), a non-alcoholic drink made with purple corn, pineapple, lime juice, cloves and cinnamon. A full bar also is on the way, as well as a tapas brunch on weekends. You’ll find Brio’s in the former Tara Thai space on the mall’s perimeter (which many remember from its previous incarnation as Legal Sea Foods). This new restaurant will provide some competition for another Peruvian eatery, Don Pollo, which is just around the corner on Westlake Drive.
