Three years after it was first announced — and eight months after the City of Rockville gave its blessing — it looks like we can finally begin the countdown for Wegmans on Rockville Pike. Fences have been erected and construction vehicles have been spotted across from Congressional Plaza, where Wegmans ultimately will anchor the sprawling Twinbrook Quarter commercial/residential development. The site previously was home to Pizza CS, Fuddruckers, Toosso, the Salvation Army store and a handful of other tenants, all of which have closed or relocated over the past few years. Sheffield Furniture & Interiors also was supposed to close, but owners signed a new lease instead. Sheffield’s Rockville location is now billed as an “outlet store.” (Update: This store is now doing business as Danker Furniture Warehouse.)
