Torchy’s Tacos, the Austin-based Tex-Mex chain that’s replacing the old Chuy’s on Rockville Pike, is just weeks away from opening at Federal Plaza. Much like Chuy’s, which went dark in 2020, Torchy’s will be a casual spot specializing in tacos, chips, queso and cocktails. Its next-door neighbor, still under construction, will be Kura Revolving Sushi Bar. This will be the first Maryland location for the Japanese chain, which already has restaurants in D.C. and Tysons Corner. Kura is known for its sushi conveyer belts, kitschy prizes and drinks delivered by robots.
