Just across the street from the Twinbrook Quarter project, The Shops at Congressional Village is about to be sold at auction. This is the home of longtime businesses like Mosaic Cuisine, Armand’s Pizzeria, Gyroland and Healthy Back — but these days, many of their neighbors are dark. The signs are still up for Da Yu, a hot pot restaurant that was supposed to move into the original REI space, but that project was abandoned early in the pandemic. Recent closings include Snowbots and Eerkin’s Uyghur Cuisine. According to a report in the Washington Business Journal, so many tenants have had financial problems that the shopping center’s owners couldn’t keep up with their mortgage. The auction is set for Oct. 12th.
