There were no balloons or farewell festivities as Party City served its final guests this week and quietly went dark on Rockville Pike. The 39-year-old retailer, which filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in February, has been marking down its remaining inventory for weeks. The doors may have closed, but the party’s not exactly over: Party City has announced plans to return as an online-only business. That’s also the case with Buy Buy Baby, which closed its Rockville store in February and is launching a revamped website in May.
