Opening next week at Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg: Locally Crafted, a new shop that showcases works by D.C.-area artists. Owners Heather Luxenberg and Stacey Hammer are putting the final touches on a boutique that will carry everything from pottery, pet clothes and paintings to jewelry, textiles, furniture and home decor. More than 60 vendors — mostly from Maryland — have items in the store right now, and 50 more are waiting to get in. “We have things from $2 to $200, and every item here has a maker behind it,” Luxenberg says. “We want people to walk in and say, ‘This is art that I can appreciate.'” Down the line, Locally Crafted also will host workshops for drawing, painting, crocheting, cookie decorating, polymer clay and the like. Doors will open Oct. 16th at 125 Boardwalk Place, in the former Ann Taylor space across from Potbelly.
