Just in time for the holiday season, it appears we have an unexpected happy ending for McDonald’s at Cabin John Village. Two weeks after we reported that the fast-food chain would be closing its longtime Potomac location, shopping center owner Edens has reopened negotiations with the restaurant’s local franchisee. It all happened because of two Potomac-area moms, Wendy Fink and Martha Larrazábal, who started a change.org petition when they learned that Edens intended to oust McDonald’s from the Cabin John mini-mall. There was a similar public outcry when beloved tenants Baskin Robbins and Broadway Pizza were booted from the center two years ago. (Baskin Robbins later relocated to Potomac Woods Plaza; Broadway never returned.) But this time it was the petition — and the resulting news coverage — that seems to have made the difference. All the details haven’t been ironed out yet, but the franchisee says McDonald’s is definitely staying.
