After a slew of restaurant closings at Rockville Town Square this year, the neighborhood is finally welcoming a new eatery. Gyuzo Japanese BBQ, which opened last week, specializes in Wagyu beef cooked at your table and washed down with sake. Gyuzo is one of several small eateries that have divided up the former Mellow Mushroom space at 33 Maryland Ave. It’s this year’s only new addition so far for the Square, where 2020 has taken away Bar Louie, Gordon Biersch, La Tasca, Gumbo Ya Ya and Thai Pavilion. Next to open, date TBD: HalfSmoke, a D.C. restaurant that’s moving into the former American Tap Room/Pandora space.
