Dirty Dough opened its doors at Rockville Town Square this week, offering stuffed cookies and chunky milkshakes in the former Berry Cup space on Maryland Avenue. The “dirty” refers to mix-ins like chips, caramel, nuts, frosting and candy pieces, which are rolled into these oversized cookies. The model here is a lot like that of Crumbl at Federal Plaza: New flavors drop every week, and the cookies can be purchased alone (just under $5) or in party boxes of up to a dozen (close to $50). In 2022, Crumbl sued Dirty Dough for allegedly copying its recipes, packaging design and other trade secrets. The two companies eventually settled that suit, and both are now looking for additional locations in the D.C. area.
