Carmen’s Italian Ice, a local favorite since 2001, is expanding to Potomac with a new location in the Cabin John Village mini-mall. Owner Jason Mandler tells us the shop will be modeled after the brand’s Kensington store with a walk-up window, six to eight flavors of frozen custard, and 18 to 20 flavors of Italian ices. There will also be shakes and gelatis, the layered custard-and-ice combo that Carmen’s is known for. The new shop will be open year-round, with its own seating plus easy access to the mini-mall’s central common area and outdoor spaces. Mandler is shooting for a summer opening across from Colony Grill, in the long-ago home of Momo Taro Sushi Express.
