Big Papi’s Tacos, a Frederick-based business launched by a pair of former deejays, makes its Montgomery County debut this Saturday (April 12th) in downtown Rockville. Owners Carlos Jimenez and Victor Alvarez opened the first Big Papi’s in 2020, turning to tacos when the pandemic derailed their music careers. They are best known for their quesabirria tacos, featuring slow-cooked meats and cheese with a consomé dip. Big Papi’s also offers tacos filled with rockfish, shrimp, veggies or vegan chorizo, along with traditional Mexican sides. And for dessert: churros or tres leches. You’ll find Big Papi’s in the former Domoishi Asian food hall space, at 201 East Middle Lane across from Rockville Town Square. It’s just around the corner from Little Miner Taco, which opened last year on Maryland Avenue. Another nearby Mexican restaurant, Tequila, closed its doors in January after a very short run on North Washington Street.
