The future is looking worse than ever for Bed Bath & Beyond, which announced this week that it’s running out of cash. Unless business picks up — unlikely now that the holidays are over and there’s little new merchandise on the shelves — bankruptcy appears to be imminent for the 52-year-old chain. In our area, Bed Bath & Beyond closed its store in Gaithersburg but still has one location on Rockville Pike. The company also owns the Buy Buy Baby chain, and it used to own Cost Plus World Market — but it sold that business in 2020 to raise more cash.
