The new year is off to a good start at the Cabin John Village mini-mall, where Moby Dick is getting ready to open and McDonald’s is getting a makeover. We have the latest on both.

  • Moby Dick, now under construction on the back side of the center overlooking the lawn, is expected to open the first week of March. This will be the second Potomac location for the Persian fast-casual chain, which also has a restaurant in the Village. This one will have indoor and outdoor seating, featuring garage-style doors that will swing open when the weather is nice.
  • McDonald’s is closed for a month-long renovation that will include updated seating, floors and decor. The redesigned space will feature new touchscreen ordering kiosks and streamlined pickup for online orders. The kids’ indoor play area will remain intact. Owner Kari Swenson says she’s grateful to have signed a 10-year lease after the events of December 2023, when the restaurant was almost forced out before it was saved by a neighborhood petition. “We’re incredibly grateful for the support of our amazing customers,” Swenson says.

  • A Verizon store is also opening in the mini-mall, taking the long-empty space between Oxford Custom Tailors and Occasions. The store is already operating out of a temporary space across from My Gym until its permanent spot is ready.
