This week brought an official announcement of the news we reported back in September: The Cava guys are taking over Renato’s in Potomac Village. Ted Xenohristos, Dimitri Moshovitis and Ike Grigoropoulos will be cooking up something new to add to their local restaurant empire, which includes the original full-service Cava Mezze in Rockville as well as Julii, Melina and the soon-to-open Bouboulina at Pike & Rose. The three longtime friends are also the founders of the fast-casual Cava chain, which went public last year. In Potomac Village, their menu will include dishes like handmade pasta, meatballs, fried mushroom polenta and chicken parmesan. Doors are expected to open in 2025. But you won’t have to wait that long for a new restaurant in the Village: In the former Lock 72 space right next door, D.C.-based Duke’s Grocery will be opening very soon.
