Tequila Modern Mexican made its long-awaited debut in downtown Rockville this week, offering casual Mexican fare along with 100 types of tequila, specialty margaritas, beer and sangria. This is the first Montgomery County location for the family-owned business, which operates Mexican restaurants all over the United States under a variety of different names. The Rockville location, in the former Trapezaria space on North Washington Street, has been renovated and redesigned with painted skulls, blown-glass hearts, and flower-themed decor from Mexico. Most of the work was completed last winter and the restaurant was originally expected to launch in January, but permitting issues kept pushing back the timeline. “It was just a learning process for the Maryland area,” says co-owner Jose Reyes. “But we finally got through all the hoops and were able to open our doors.” (Meanwhile, another Mexican restaurant went dark this week just as Tequila opened.
