Sleep Number, the mattress retailer known for its adjustable smart beds, has filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closed its store at Westfield Montgomery mall. The Minneapolis-based company, carrying $672.5 million in debt, blames its troubles on tariffs, inflation and slowed consumer spending. Sleep Number has closed 44 of its nearly 600 stores nationwide, but it has lined up a potential buyer and says it will stay in business. The Rockville Pike location, which opened last year at Montrose Crossing, is not expected to close.

Sleep Number at Montgomery mall was always set to close. It was set to close when the relocation of Rockville was set in place…. It only stayed open for a year after Rockville opened because there was still a lease with the mall.
