Montreal-based retailer Garage has opened its doors at Westfield Montgomery mall, taking over the former Aéropostale space on the lower level. Garage has been a staple for Canadian teens and tweens since the mid-1970s, expanding into the U.S. in the early 2000s. But the company completely revamped its image in 2024, scrubbing its previous social media presence and rebooting with sexualized photos of young women barely wearing its clothes. There was a swift backlash from longtime fans, many of whom now have daughters of their own. But Garage says it’s “unapologetic” about the change, as it’s looking to transition from teens to twenty-something shoppers.
