Homegrown clothing chain Collars & Co. will close its temporary Rockville store next week as it relocates to a permanent home on Bethesda Row. The retailer opened last November at Congressional Plaza, originally as a holiday pop-up. “We were expecting to be there only a couple of months, but the community has been wonderful to us and we ended up staying as long as we could,” says owner Justin Baer, who launched Collars & Co. from his Bethesda home in 2021. The business began with a single product: a polo shirt featuring a crisp dress-shirt collar, designed to lie smoothly under a sweater. The idea eventually landed Baer a deal on Shark Tank, earning investments from sharks Mark Cuban and Peter Jones. Today, Collars & Co. sells a full range of menswear and has several locations around the country — but none in Baer’s hometown until now.
