Best Buy is closing its doors on Shady Grove Road after more than two decades at the 270 Center. The closing is part of the retailer’s plan to reduce its brick-and-mortar presence after several years of slumping sales. Best Buy thrived during the pandemic as Americans spent their discretionary dollars on kitchen appliances, televisions, sound systems, computers and gaming consoles. But once society opened up again, home upgrades and appliance purchases returned to normal levels. Best Buy says it will keep its store on Rockville Pike, as well as the one in Germantown. Doors will close Oct. 26th on Shady Grove Road, but don’t bother rushing over to hunt for bargains. The shelves were already half-empty when we stopped by this week, and we’re told there won’t be any dramatic markdowns.
