Three years after Bed Bath & Beyond shuttered all its stores, a new incarnation is coming back to Rockville Pike. The online version of Bed Bath & Beyond is merging with The Container Store, and the two businesses will soon coexist under one roof at Congressional Plaza. This is a twisty tale: After Bed Bath & Beyond went bankrupt in 2023, Overstock.com bought the rights to that name and has been looking for a way to revive it in brick and mortar. Now the company is buying the entire Container Store chain, and will co-brand its locations as The Container Store/Bed Bath & Beyond. So what will this retail mashup actually look like? We’ll find out this summer, as the combined stores begin to take shape just in time for back-to-school shopping season.
