Amazon Fresh made its debut on Shady Grove Road this week — two years later than expected, after the company abandoned this project and then changed its mind. If you have an Amazon account, you’ll appreciate the store’s speed and convenience. Just grab one of the green “Dash Carts,” flash your Amazon app at the built-in self-scanner, and scan each item as you drop it into your basket. Not sure if those bananas rang up correctly? Don’t worry. Your cart is watching and will nag you to try again. When you’re finished shopping, you can breeze right through the Dash Cart lane and head straight to your car. So what does Amazon Fresh actually look like inside? Other than the high-tech shopping experience, it resembles Giant and the prices are pretty similar. Merchandise ranges from major national brands to Amazon’s private-label products to higher-priced goods from Whole Foods Market (which is also owned by Amazon). There’s a salad bar, a hot bar, a small array of baked goods, and a limited selection of flowers. Also: You can return your Amazon packages while you’re there, no box or label needed. You’ll find the new Amazon Fresh at 270 Center, home to Best Buy and Nordstrom Rack.
