Dawson’s Market, which exits Rockville Town Square at the end of this month, is reinventing itself as the in-house restaurant operator for the Universities at Shady Grove. Dawson’s will feed students, faculty and staff at the USG campus on Gudelsky Drive, which offers classes and degrees from nine Maryland universities. After opening in 2012 as an original anchor for Rockville Town Square, Dawson’s shut down in 2018 but was revived with the assistance of $400,000 a year in taxpayer-funded grants. After the grants ran out, the grocer announced it was closing again. It’s unclear what’s next for the Dawson’s space on North Washington Street, but all signs point to a new supermarket moving in — possibly Aldi. Stay tuned to Store Reporter for the latest.

Aldi would be awesome as I do all my groceries in Aldi!!! Dawson was a mistake from the beginning and it was always empty and super expensive! Not sure why the county was funding it with assistance and propping it up when no one wanted Dawson to begin with! Such a mis-management and waste of funds that could have been used to apply to public works within Town Center.
