Seven years after it was first announced, fan favorite grocery chain Wegmans has finally arrived at Rockville’s new Twinbrook Quarter development. And the 80,000-square-foot store does not disappoint: It’s a food emporium with just about everything a hungry shopper could ask for.
Highlights include a huge selection of international, plant-based, kosher and gluten-free foods; massive cheese wheels aged in the company’s own cheese caves; an overflowing floral department with blooms from regional farms; premade and ready-to-cook meals created by Wegmans chefs; mini versions of the bakery’s most popular cakes; house-made fudge and fancy chocolate bars; an entire kiosk called “Cookieland;” and the largest selection of coffees we’ve ever seen.
There’s also a food court with individual stations for breakfast sandwiches, salads, soups, sushi, poke bowls, hot bowls, pizza, fresh coffee and more. You can take your meal home, have a seat in the spacious cafe, or sit outside. (While some Wegmans stores are known for their wine tastings and happy hours, this one doesn’t sell alcohol per Montgomery County rules.)
With everything Wegmans has to offer, we were surprised by the reasonable prices. Most items appear to be on par or even lower than other local supermarkets. The hours are great too: Wegmans is open from 6 a.m. to midnight daily at 1590 Rockville Pike. Parking is available in the garage on either side of the store.

This article reports: “(While some Wegmans stores are known for their wine tastings and happy hours, this one doesn’t sell alcohol per Montgomery County rules.)” As I understand the rules, one site of a chain food store can sell wine in MoCo. I found a chain store selling wine in Germantown years ago and was surprised until a friend explained that a chain could sell wine at one site only. Has this rule changed?

Here is the rule as stated on Montgomery County’s website:
“Maryland State law prohibits alcohol sales in grocery stores. However, Legislation was put forth in the early 1980s to protect small businesses. Currently, four Montgomery County grocery stores sell beer and wine today because they were licensed before the law changed. There are also some smaller chain stores that are licensed because they were the first location in the state (not yet considered a chain when licensed).”
