With its parent company in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Rockville’s Value City Furniture store is going out of business at Montrose Crossing. The company blames its financial troubles on inflation, tariffs, the broader U.S. economy, and a sluggish housing market. The Rockville location, which opened eight years ago in the onetime Sports Authority space, is expected to close in January.

This sucks. They have high quality furniture for much lower prices than higher-end stores. Oh well, another store I’ll gladly drive to P.G. County for, and eat at the many restaurants we no longer have in Montgomery County while I’m there.

This store did seem to be a good fit for the value-oriented retailers at Montrose Crossing. And it leaves a big hole to fill — without a lot of big-box retailers around these days to fill it.
