If ever there were a good time for a Taco Bell to go dark for awhile, this would be it. Just a few weeks after the Mexican chain got swept up in the cyclospora food poisoning outbreak, the Taco Bell at 1100 Rockville Pike has closed for a previously planned remodel. When it reopens, the dining room will likely get smaller while the drive-thru lanes get bigger. Most fast-food restaurants are taking away tables and adding lanes to better accommodate mobile order pickups as well as traffic from impatient DoorDash and Uber Eats drivers. Some of the newest McDonald’s locations, including the one that opened on Rockville Pike last year, offer only a handful of seats for on-site diners.
