Seven years after Barnes & Noble closed its doors in downtown Bethesda, a new local bookstore is on the way. Wonderland Books, set to open before the holidays at 7920 Norfolk Ave., is owned by two longtime friends who love to read: Amy Joyce, a former Washington Post parenting editor, and Gayle Weiswasser, who previously worked in corporate communications. The store will be stocked with titles for all ages, plus gifts and cards — and there will be a full schedule of author talks, book clubs, panel discussions, trivia nights and the like. The only thing Wonderland Books won’t offer is refreshments. “There are just so many coffee shops in Bethesda that we decided not to serve food,” Joyce says. “But the store will have plenty of seating, and we’ll definitely have a bring-your-own-coffee policy.”
