Athleta is aiming for an April 20th opening at Congressional Plaza, riding the boom in athleisure wear that’s only gotten bigger since the pandemic. This will be the third Athleta store in the D.C. area (the others are in Tysons Corner and Georgetown), and the first activewear store to open at Congressional since Lucy went out of business in 2017. Athleta, a division of The Gap, plans to open 100 new stores in the next two years. Meanwhile, Target’s new All in Motion activewear line just celebrated its first anniversary with an astounding $1 billion in sales.
