This week marked the debut of Macy’s Backstage, the new store-within-a-store on the lower level of Westfield Montgomery mall. The vibe here is more Marshall’s than Nordstrom Rack, with a somewhat haphazard mix of clothes, shoes, purses, luggage, cookware, home goods, toys and snacks. There are plenty of popular brands to be found, from Vince Camuto, Champion and Calphalon to Tommy Hilfiger, Timberland and Perry Ellis. But the famous names share space with the no-names: sheets by Tahari next to towels by “Blueberry Cove;” formal dresses from Adrianna Papell next to sundresses from an unidentified “famous maker;” Tate’s chocolate chip cookies next to Sour Patch candy lookalikes. Are there bargains to be had at Macy’s Backstage? Probably. But shop carefully: Returns are only accepted for 30 days.
