A new kind of cannabis shop opened its doors this week at Potomac Woods Plaza. Called SOL of Potomac – The Penthouse, it’s designed to resemble a comfortable boutique with couches, a fireplace, a big-screen TV, cafe tables, and a colorful array of cannabis products displayed in jewelry-style cases. Three years after it became legal to purchase small amounts of cannabis in Montgomery County, SOL owner Derrick “Jack” Frost says he’s trying to defy expectations about the marijuana shopping experience. “The typical dispensary can be dark and foreboding,” says the former tech executive. “We wanted SOL to be open, bright and inviting. We’re moving away from the stigma and toward cannabis’ future as a tool for health and wellness.” You’ll find SOL of Potomac at the intersection of Seven Locks and Montrose roads, on the second floor above The Bottle Shop.
