Here’s a peek at Whelan’s Beer & Wine, which opened its doors this week next to Five Guys in Potomac Village. The walls are lined with all kinds of selections to take home, but owner Greg Whelan — owner of the Irish-themed McGinty’s Public House in Silver Spring — has outfitted the shop with TVs, comfortable tables and seating for 55. “This will be a nice place to have some fun,” says Whelan, who’s planning a lively schedule of tastings, social events and wine appreciation classes. There’s no food on the premises, but you can order from nearby restaurants and have a meal delivered right to your table.
