Another big blow to the restaurant scene at Westfield Montgomery mall: Urban Plates closed its doors this week after a two-year run in the Dining Terrace. This had been one of the first D.C.-area locations for the West Coast chain, which offered fresh, mostly organic cuisine in a fast-casual setting. All of its East Coast restaurants have now gone dark as Urban Plates retreats to its home state of California, where outdoor dining is a year-round option. At Westfield Montgomery, this makes nearly a dozen restaurants and snack spots that have closed since the pandemic began. Our running list includes Aroma, BeefsteakCold Stone Creamery, Gusto, Mirch Masala, Möge Tee, Patisserie Manuel, Poké Papa, Spice 6 and the Sarku sushi bar. So what’s opening? Frank Pepe eventually, Shake Shack very soon.
