Another big blow to the restaurant scene at Westfield Montgomery mall: Urban Plates closed its doors this week after a two-year run in the Dining Terrace. This had been one of the first D.C.-area locations for the West Coast chain, which offered fresh, mostly organic cuisine in a fast-casual setting. All of its East Coast restaurants have now gone dark as Urban Plates retreats to its home state of California, where outdoor dining is a year-round option. At Westfield Montgomery, this makes nearly a dozen restaurants and snack spots that have closed since the pandemic began. Our running list includes Aroma, Beefsteak, Cold Stone Creamery, Gusto, Mirch Masala, Möge Tee, Patisserie Manuel, Poké Papa, Spice 6 and the Sarku sushi bar. So what’s opening? Frank Pepe eventually, Shake Shack very soon.
