Still more comings and goings this week at Rockville Town Square, where Indian restaurant Spice Xing has closed its doors after a long run on Gibbs Street. Taking its place is Kumbia, a South American eatery that will offer cuisine from Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Brazil and Ecuador. Two other eateries are also on the way: Èkó House, which is moving into the Bar Louie space with a menu of Nigerian specialties; and El Mercat Bar de Tapas, which will offer Spanish food and drinks in the spot that was most recently home to Gumbo Ya Ya. Elsewhere on Gibbs Street, the new Plaza Oaxaca restaurant has been serving Mexican food since May — and Thai Chef Street Food is expected to open soon. But just around the corner, on Maryland Avenue, it’s unclear if HalfSmoke is ever going to arrive. The D.C.-based restaurant is now almost a year behind schedule, and owner Andre McCain has stopped returning our messages.
