As secondhand shopping continues to boom across the country, Goodwill has opened a new Rockville location in the former Planet Aid thrift store space on Randolph Road. While you’re dropping off your donations, you can browse the vast selection of clothes, shoes, luggage, furniture, housewares, electronics, books and DVDs. Goodwill, founded in 1902, posted record sales of $7 billion in 2025. The nonprofit plans to open about 100 new locations this year. “Secondhand has moved from being a niche choice to a mainstream choice,” COO David Eagles recently told Modern Retail. He notes that two-thirds of Gen Z and millennials bought some secondhand apparel last year — not only to save money, but to help the environment by reducing waste. “Younger consumers now don’t think secondhand is second best.”
