Altar’d State, the Christian-themed women’s clothing chain, has apparently lost faith in the D.C. area. The Westfield Montgomery mall location will go dark on May 21st, following other recent closings in Arlington and Tysons Corner. Altar’d State, based in Tennessee, is known for its ultra-feminine styles and religious sensibilities. The dresses are frilly, the walls are lined with inspirational quotes, and there are prayer books in every fitting room. This approach has been successful in the south but less so in Maryland and Northern Virginia, staffers tell us. Altar’d State had been at the mall for five years.
