Interesting new concept on the way to downtown Rockville: KPUB, an “Irish/Korean fusion” restaurant and bar with a side of karaoke. When it opens — no projected date yet — KPUB will occupy the ground floor of the BLVD Ansel apartment building at 33 Monroe Street. The man behind this concept is Derek Liu, a partner with Ivea Restaurant Group who has helped develop such local favorites as Kanpai, Kajiken, Uzu Revolving Sushi, Urban Hot Pot, Akira Ramen and Lao Sze Chuan. It’s unclear whether Ivea Group will play a role in KPUB, or if Liu is creating this one on his own.
